Rugby player Kristian Smith dies suddenly at the age of 33 after falling unwell at home

A beloved rugby player has passed away suddenly at the age of 33 after falling ill at home. Kristian Smith, a former second-row player from Blaina, Wales, tragically passed away in a hospital on Saturday evening.

Kristian, affectionately known as ‘Long Dog’ by his friends, had played for several clubs including Blaina, Cardiff, Merthyr, Tredegar, and Nantyglo. He retired from playing a couple of years ago due to an injury.

The Pontypool club, where Kristian had played in the past, expressed their condolences in a brief statement.

A spokesperson from the club said: “It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of former second-row Kristian Smith. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”
