Dan Patrick paid an emotional tribute to NBA legend Jerry West after the news of his death at the age of 86, a figure whose silhouette became the iconic NBA logo.
West, known for his 14 seasons in the league and later success as an executive, held a special place in many people’s hearts, including Patrick.
During a live show, Patrick expressed his shock and grief over West’s passing, even admitting that the news hit him hard.
“He was the logo and certainly a friend of the show,” Patrick said, visibly moved by the news.
Reflecting on their attempted recent collaboration, Patrick mentioned that West’s health prevented him from appearing on the show, showing the bond they shared.
Even producer Paul Pabst joined in, acknowledging the impact of West’s death on Patrick and the team.
“We were waiting for the break. I know how important this guy was to you. I’m sure he was your hero, your dad’s,” Pabst sympathetically shared with Patrick.
“We didn’t have a good start, but we had a good finish,” Patrick shared, emphasizing the value of their friendship.
