Grammy award-winning producer and songwriter The-Dream is currently facing serious allegations of rape and sexual battery in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles. The lawsuit, filed by former protégé Chanaaz Mangroe, who performed as Channii Monroe, accuses the 47-year-old music mogul of repeatedly forcing her to have sex, throttling her, and even filming intimate encounters without her consent.
According to the lawsuit, Ms. Mangroe is seeking damages for “lost wages” and for the emotional distress she has suffered as a result of these alleged incidents. The 33-year-old, originally from the Netherlands, claims that The-Dream subjected her to violent sexual encounters, forced her to consume excessive amounts of alcohol, and even raped her in a renovated sprinter van.
Ms. Mangroe alleges that The-Dream made false promises to her, including suggesting he could arrange for her to be the opening act for Beyoncé’s tour and the Grammys. She also claims that he told her he would make her the next Beyoncé and Rihanna, manipulating her with these grandiose ideas.
In a statement to the BBC, Ms. Mangroe expressed how difficult it was for her to come forward with her story but felt compelled to speak out to prevent future abuse. She hopes that sharing her experience will help others who may have faced similar situations.
The-Dream, who has worked with artists like Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Justin Bieber, has denied these allegations, calling them “untrue and defamatory.” He expressed his opposition to all forms of harassment and stated that he has always strived to support artists in achieving their career goals.
