Brother Marquis, a prominent member of the legendary rap group 2 Live Crew, has passed away at the age of 58.
The announcement of his death was made by the group’s social media accounts, revealing that Mark D. Ross, known as Brother Marquis, died on Monday.
His cause of death is believed to be natural, as per sources from TMZ.
Brother Marquis’ passing comes after the group lost one of its co-founders, Fresh Kid Ice, in 2017.
In the official statement released by 2 Live Crew about Brother Marquis’ death, they mentioned that he had “gone to the upper room.”
The band’s manager confirmed the news to TMZ but did not disclose any further details.
Brother Marquis was born in Rochester, New York, and he was a pivotal part of many of the group’s groundbreaking and controversial albums.
Their album “As Nasty As They Wanna Be” from 1988 faced controversy and led to their arrest in 1990 due to its explicit content.
Brother Marquis joined the group for their first album, “The 2 Live Crew Is What We Are,” which came out in 1986.
The following year, their album reached number 24 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and received a gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
