Legendary footballer Ian “Chico” Hamilton, who made history as Chelsea’s youngest player and goalscorer, has passed away at the age of 73.
Fans and players from around the world are mourning the loss of Hamilton, a gifted midfielder who earned his nickname after the renowned American jazz drummer.
Hamilton kicked off his football journey with Chelsea in 1966 and quickly made a name for himself as the youngest player and goal scorer in the history of the club at just 16 years and 138 days old.
His debut goal against Tottenham showcased his talent and drew comparisons to the iconic Jimmy Greaves.
Although his time at Chelsea was brief with only four more league appearances, Hamilton found his stride at Aston Villa, where he played an impressive 208 games and notably secured a League Cup victory in 1975.
His football journey also led him to Sheffield United before venturing to play in the United States.
Even in retirement, Hamilton continued to impact the football world as a coach at Thomas Worthington High School in Ohio for 17 years.
Sheffield United confirmed Hamilton’s passing on social media, expressing their sadness at the news.
