Veteran Ghanaian actor Agya Koo, whose real name is Kofi Adu, has come out to deny claims that he has been financially benefitting from his support for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
During an interview with Nana Yaa Brefo in Ejisu, Agya Koo made it clear that his allegiance to the NPP is not driven by monetary gains but rather by his genuine love for the party and its principles. He firmly refuted allegations that the NPP had provided financial assistance to him to help navigate the challenges faced by the Kumawood movie industry.
In response to accusations that he is backing the NPP solely for financial reasons, Agya Koo challenged his critics to verify any supposed financial transactions. He boldly questioned, “Who even gave me money, and in which account was it paid? Check all the bank accounts and see which of them were deposited. Or did I carry the money from Jubilee House?”
Expressing frustration at the allegations, Agya Koo pointed out that only a few Kumawood actors have joined him in his support for the NPP. He mentioned working closely with Matilda Asare and highlighted the absence of other actors such as Mr. Beautiful or Afrani in his political activities.
Agya Koo’s recent presence in the Ejisu constituency, where he campaigned for NPP parliamentary candidate Kwabena Boateng ahead of the upcoming by-elections on April 30, 2024, underscores his unwavering commitment to supporting the party’s political endeavors. This demonstrates his dedication to the NPP beyond any financial incentives.
