Don’t cheat as retaliation, seek counselling – Charlotte Oduro advises women

Renowned Ghanaian marriage counsellor Charlotte Oduro has offered some valuable advice for women who are dealing with partners involved in extramarital affairs.

In an interview with Oyerepa FM, Oduro emphasized the importance of seeking counselling instead of resorting to retaliation in response to a spouse’s infidelity. She warned against the temptation of responding with infidelity, stating that it would not resolve the underlying issues. According to Oduro, allowing anger to guide actions could potentially ruin one’s future.

Oduro also highlighted the need for women to consider walking away from such challenges or ending the marriage if coping becomes unbearable. Responding to wrongdoing with further wrongdoing, she stressed, can have severe consequences and is ultimately futile.

Furthermore, Oduro raised concerns about societal norms that often overlook men’s infidelity while condemning women who react in a similar manner due to emotional pain. She noted that many women feel compelled to retaliate because they believe society tends to excuse men’s affairs but shames women for their actions.

In light of these observations, Oduro urged a shift in perspective and encouraged healthier ways of addressing marital challenges. She emphasized the importance of prioritizing one’s future well-being and seeking help through counselling rather than resorting to destructive behaviors.
