Matthew Perry, known for his role in the popular TV show Friends, struggled with addiction for years before his untimely death in October.
His stepfather, Keith Morrison, revealed that Perry felt like he was overcoming his addiction, but he knew it was a battle he could never fully win.
Perry, who was open about his struggles with alcohol and substance abuse, was found unresponsive in his hot tub at the age of 54. An autopsy report revealed that the combination of ketamine and buprenorphine, along with coronary artery disease and drowning, were contributing factors to his passing. Despite reportedly being clean for 19 months, Perry was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy to address depression and anxiety.
Morrison, who had been a father figure to Perry since he was 12 years old, expressed the grief he still feels every day since Perry’s death. He described Perry as being in a good place before his passing, happy and content, which brings some comfort but also highlights the unfairness of his premature death.
In a candid interview, Morrison reminisced about Perry’s larger-than-life personality and the bond they shared. Despite their differences in personality, Morrison was a source of support for Perry throughout his struggles.
Perry was dedicated to his journey to sobriety and became an advocate for substance abuse treatment. In the wake of his death, his mother and stepfather established the Matthew Perry Foundation to help others battling addiction.
