Stephen Appiah reportedly to serve on new Hearts of Oak board

Former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, is set to play a key role at Hearts of Oak, the Ghanaian football club, following the announcement of the disbandment of the current board.

Hearts of Oak revealed this news on their social media platforms on Tuesday, signaling the end of a 12-year tenure for the outgoing board.

The process of forming a new board is in progress, with the new board members’ names set to be officially disclosed at the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in March 2024.

As part of the upcoming changes, Stephen Appiah, a former player for Hearts of Oak, is expected to return to the club in a yet-to-be-disclosed capacity.

At the age of 43, Appiah made his mark with the Phobian Club, featuring in 21 matches and scoring 19 goals between 1995 and 1997.

Known for his leadership skills, he later went on to manage the Ghana national team, the Black Stars, leading them to qualify for the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups in Germany and South Africa, respectively.

Appiah brings a wealth of experience and knowledge, having also served in various other roles within the football industry.

During the tenure of the dissolved board, Hearts of Oak clinched the Premier League title, two FA Cups, Super Cup, and the President’s Cup.
