The Cameroonian football federation (Fecafoot) has announced that Rigobert Song has stepped down from his role as Head Coach of the national team.

This decision comes after the Indomitable Lions were eliminated in the round of 16 by Nigeria during the recent AFCON tournament held in Côte d’Ivoire.

FECAFOOT President, Samuel Eto’o, confirmed the news on Wednesday, expressing disappointment in the team’s performance under Song’s leadership.

“We have not achieved our objectives, and our executive committee and I do not see ourselves renewing the contract with Song,” Eto’o stated.

Song was appointed as Head Coach in February 2022, following the conclusion of the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon. He was able to guide the team to qualify for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Despite a notable victory over Brazil, Cameroon narrowly missed out on advancing to the knockout stages of the World Cup.

During Song’s tenure as Head Coach, the Indomitable Lions only managed to secure six wins out of twenty-three games, a record that fell short of expectations.

The decision to part ways with Rigobert Song signals a new chapter for the Cameroonian national team as they look to regroup and build towards future success on the international stage.
