President Akufo Addo, in his almost final State of the Nation Address delivered in Parliament on Tuesday, February 27, highlighted the sincerity of Andre Ayew’s apology following Ghana’s disappointing performance in the AFCON tournament.
After only managing to secure 2 points during the tournament, the Black Stars’ early exit left fans and players disheartened.
Despite the team’s underwhelming performance, Captain Andre Ayew stepped up to take full responsibility and issued a heartfelt apology. President Akufo Addo praised Ayew for his humility and accountability, acknowledging the genuine nature of his apology.
“The recent AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire was perhaps the lowest point in the Black Stars’ performance, and it has left the nation in a state of mourning,” the President remarked.
“I am confident that the players and coaching staff would have wanted to make Ghana proud, and I believe that Captain Andre Dede Ayew was sincere in his apology on behalf of his teammates to the entire nation for the team’s early elimination,” he continued.
