South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has reflected on the Bafana Bafana team’s achievements during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations following their return to South Africa.
Upon their return on February 14, 2024, the team received a warm welcome from the president of SAFA. Williams took the opportunity to share insights into the team’s progress.
Despite not making it to the final, the South African national team, led by coach Hugo Broos, secured third place in the tournament and won the bronze medal.
“What we have accomplished over the past few weeks still seems unreal to us. We saw all the messages and all the records we broke as a team,” said Williams, the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.
Williams also expressed pride in the team’s brotherhood and spirit, which he believes contributed to their success. “So I’m proud of the boys for the brotherhood, the brotherhood that we’ve had from day one. The spirit that reigns between us is good. I think that’s one of the reasons for our success: the spirit, the group, the cohesion,” he added.
