The Duke of Sussex is set to travel to the UK to visit King Charles after Buckingham Palace announced that the monarch has been diagnosed with cancer.
A spokesperson for Prince Harry confirmed that he had spoken to his father about the diagnosis, while Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, will remain in the US with their two children. This visit comes amid strained relationships between Prince Harry and some other royals following his and Meghan’s decision to step back as senior royals in 2020.
Despite the tensions, Prince Harry has continued to have a relationship with the King, with the King calling Prince Harry to break the news of his health. Last year, the King called Prince Harry on his 75th birthday, indicating that their relationship remains intact despite their differences.
It is also reported that the duke has made efforts to attend important family events, such as the King’s Coronation, but his appearances have been limited. His last appearance at a Royal occasion took place in May, during the King’s Coronation, where he left immediately after the ceremony in Westminster Abbey and was not invited to appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony.
The prince’s visit to the UK also follows his involvement in libel cases involving UK newspapers and his public discussions about his disagreements with the Royal Family. In interviews with Oprah Winfrey and a Netflix documentary, Prince Harry has been vocal about the challenges he has faced within the Royal Family, including his strained relationship with his father, King Charles.
