The King of England, King Charles, has been discharged from the London Clinic private hospital after receiving treatment for an enlarged prostate. The King had spent three nights at the hospital following his medical procedure.
Accompanying him was his wife, Queen Camilla, as they waved to the cameras before departing from the hospital.
The Princess of Wales, Catherine, also left the same central London hospital almost two weeks after undergoing abdominal surgery. She was driven back to her home in Windsor and will now spend her time in recuperation.
According to Buckingham Palace, the King will be rescheduling his public engagements to allow for a period of private recuperation. It is uncertain how long the King will pause his official visits or where he will spend his time recovering.
Despite the medical treatment, there will be no constitutional changes required for the King’s role as head of state, and there will be no need for “counsellors of state” to stand in for him during his illness.
The exact nature of the Princess’s surgery has not been disclosed, but she is expected to need several months to recover. She has not made any public appearances since Christmas Day, and her recovery will continue at home in Adelaide Cottage, Windsor.
Prince William, her husband, visited her during her hospital stay, and the King also visited her before his prostate procedure on Friday.
King Charles’ decision to make his medical procedure public was to encourage other men to get prostate checks. This has led to an increase in searches about enlarged prostates on the NHS website and has created a positive impact on public health awareness.
