French football icon Zinedine Zidane has rejected an offer to coach the Algeria National team.

According to reports from L’Equipe, Zinedine Zidane, the renowned French football icon, has declined an offer to become the head coach of Algeria’s national football team.

This decision follows Algeria’s disappointing performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they were eliminated at the group stage.

Despite winning the AFCON trophy in 2019, the Desert Foxes experienced back-to-back group-stage exits after a loss to Mauritania in the final game, having drawn their initial matches against Angola and Burkina Faso.

In response to their AFCON exit, coach Djamel Belmadi resigned, leading the Algerian Football Federation to search for a new head coach.

Zidane, who previously managed Real Madrid, was considered for the position, but ultimately turned down the offer.

L’Equipe reports that while flattered by the opportunity, Zidane chose not to accept the role as head coach of the Algerian national team.

Born in France to Algerian parents from Aguemoune in the Kabylie region, Zidane has had a successful coaching career, notably leading Real Madrid to three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles from 2016 to 2018.

Despite his ties to Algeria, it seems that Zidane is not ready to step into the role of coaching the national team at this time.
