Stade Rennais Technical Director Florian Maurice has recently opened up about the club’s acquisition of Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu, stating that the club had been monitoring the player for a while before securing his signature.
The 23-year-old versatile defender completed a transfer from Clermont Foot to Stade Rennais for a reported fee of €11 million, signing a four-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2028.
After undergoing medical tests following his participation in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he had limited playing time, Seidu sealed his move to Stade Rennais.
Florian Maurice expressed his admiration for the Ghanaian defender, praising his performance at Clermont Foot and highlighting his strong mentality and leadership qualities.
“He’s a player who’s been identified for some time, who’s been proving himself at Clermont for a few years now, with an incredible mentality and great leadership. He adapted very quickly to Ligue 1 and is one of the best in his position,” Florian Maurice commented on the club’s official website.
“We always hope that things work out when we recruit, but in any case, he has what it takes to become a successful player for Stade Rennais.”
