Ghana Football Association president, Kurt Okraku speaks out on the disappointing performance of the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The Black Stars were unable to progress past the group stage after failing to secure a single victory in their group games. With two draws and a loss, they finished in third place in Group B, trailing behind Cape Verde and Egypt.
This marks Ghana’s second consecutive failure to advance past the group stage of the AFCON, following their exit at the same stage during AFCON 2021 in Cameroon.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, the FA president expressed his disappointment with the Black Stars’ performance at the tournament.
“As the FA, we provided the team with all the necessary logistics to support their performance, but unfortunately, the Black Stars did not meet our expectations,” Okraku stated.
“It’s clear that the team’s performance was not in line with our expectations. Ghana has been striving to win the AFCON for over 40 years, and as football servants, our ultimate goal is to bring that coveted title back to Ghana. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out this time,” he added.
