Max Gradel, the experienced Ivorian attacking midfielder, has called on his teammates to give their all and make the country proud in the remaining stages of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Gradel emphasized the massive support the Elephants have received from Ivorian fans throughout the tournament and stressed the importance of not letting them down.
Speaking in a pre-match interview ahead of the semi-final game against DR Congo, Gradel acknowledged the tough nature of this year’s AFCON, particularly as the tournament is being held in Ivory Coast.
He noted the motivation and unwavering support of the people and fans, highlighting the incredible feeling of hearing them sing the national anthem even when the team was at a disadvantage.
“Every AFCON is different. This one is particularly tough, especially because we are playing at home, making it a very special AFCON. We have seen the motivation of people and fans which helps us give our best. Against Senegal, we felt the support even when they were in the lead,” Gradel expressed.
He concluded by stressing the need to make the Ivorian people proud, as the semi-final game against DR Congo loomed on the horizon.
The highly-anticipated match between DR Congo and Ivory Coast is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, February 7, at 8 pm at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium.
