President Akufo Addo, delivering his second to last State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Tuesday, February 27, expressed deep sorrow over Ghana’s disappointing performance in the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament held in Ivory Coast.
Ghanaians were left dejected as the Black Stars fell short of expectations, bowing out of the prestigious tournament early with only 2 points. The team’s underwhelming display left supporters disheartened and frustrated.
In his address to the nation, President Akufo Addo reflected on Ghana’s AFCON campaign, recognizing the shared sense of letdown among the populace.
“The recent AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire was perhaps the low point for the Black Stars, and has left the nation in sorrow,” he remarked.
“Nevertheless, I am confident that the players and coaching staff would have also wanted to bring honor to our country, and I believe that captain Andre Dede Ayew truly meant it when he offered sincere apologies on behalf of his teammates to all Ghanaians for the team’s premature exit,” he added.
