Ghanaian defender Tariq Lamptey made a significant impact in Brighton and Hove Albion’s impressive comeback win against Crystal Palace.
Lamptey, who recently recovered from an injury that ruled him out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, was handed a starting role on the left side by manager Roberto De Zerbi, highlighting his importance to the team this season.
In the 33rd minute, Lamptey’s well-delivered cross led to Jack Hinshelwood extending Brighton’s lead, adding to the advantage secured by Lewis Dunk 30 minutes earlier from a Pascal Gross cross.
Facundo Buonanotte then scored a third goal for Brighton just a minute after Hinshelwood’s effort.
In the second half, Crystal Palace’s Jean Phillipe Mateta managed to pull one back with an assist from Joachim Andersen.
However, Brighton quickly reasserted their dominance as Joao Pedro capitalized on Danny Welbeck’s pass, restoring their three-goal lead with just five minutes remaining in the game.
Meanwhile, Ghanaian compatriots Jeffrey Schlupp and Jordan Ayew were also involved for Crystal Palace, with Ayew featuring for the entire duration of the match.
