On Wednesday, protesters at the ‘SaveGhanaFootball demonstration in Accra displayed thought-provoking placards as they demanded drastic measures to be taken to revive Ghana’s football industry.
The protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with the Black Stars exit at the group stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, marking the third consecutive major tournament in which the team failed to progress from the first round.
The Kurt Okraku-led Ghana Football Association is now in search of its fifth Black Stars coach since coming into office five years ago.
The demonstration, which commenced at the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange and passed through Asylum Down and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, attempted to present a petition to the Sports Ministry, but was denied access by the police.
The leaders of the demonstration later read their petition at the Independence Square to the media.
The placards at the demonstration bore inscriptions such as “stop spoiling our bets” and “we used to be the Brazilians of Africa, what happened?”
The subsequent display of the interesting placards showcased the depth of passion among demonstrators for the Ghana Football Association to fix the ailing football industry of the country, which has seen better days in the past.
