The Sports Minister of Ghana, Hon. Mustapha Ussif, has announced plans to organize a national dialogue to address the disappointing performances of the Black Stars.

Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, has failed to meet expectations in the last three major tournaments, being eliminated in the group stage each time.

Prior to the early exit from AFCON 2023, the team also suffered a group stage exit at AFCON 2021 and the World Cup 2022.

Speaking to members of parliament, Mustapha Ussif stated that his ministry will engage with various stakeholders to discuss the issues surrounding the Black Stars’ poor performance in recent times.

He emphasized the need for a national dialogue, saying, “The Ministry of Youth and Sports is aware of the disappointment among the Ghanaian populace and therefore intends to put in measures that will lead to national dialogue of all stakeholders to come out with modern and inclusive way of managing our national teams.”

Mustapha Ussif expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Black Stars’ recent performances, stating, “The Black Stars’ performance in the last three major tournaments, namely the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire, where Ghana exited at the group stages of all three tournaments, notwithstanding Government’s continuous huge investment in the team, is not acceptable.”
