The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has raised concerns about the continuous sacking of coaches as a solution to the problems facing Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars.
Bagbin expressed his skepticism following the team’s disappointing performance in the 2023 AFCON, which led to the swift dismissal of Head Coach Chris Hughton and the dissolution of the technical team.
Bagbin emphasized that addressing the underlying issues plaguing Ghana’s football requires a comprehensive strategy, rather than just sacking coaches.
He stressed the importance of the Black Stars representing national pride, cohesion, and resilience, and called for a unified effort in discussing the current state of Ghana’s football and developing a comprehensive strategy for the future.
The Speaker of Parliament also highlighted the need to evaluate Ghana’s football infrastructure, youth development programs, coaching standards, and administrative structures in order to identify areas for improvement.
He called for a holistic and sustainable development of sports and culture, emphasizing the importance of national teams representing the diversity of Ghana’s football talent.
Bagbin expressed Parliament’s readiness to collaborate with other stakeholders towards the common goal of developing Ghana’s football and ensuring the success of the Black Stars.
The Speaker’s comments reflect a growing recognition of the need for a more strategic and comprehensive approach to addressing the challenges facing Ghana’s national football team.
