Ghana goalkeeper, Richard Ofori, has issued a heartfelt apology to Ghanaians for the disappointing performance of the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Ofori, an experienced shot-stopper, was part of the Ghana squad at the ongoing tournament in Ivory Coast. However, a series of mistakes by Ofori while starting in the post in all three matches, culminated in a critical error in the final minutes of the last group game against Mozambique, leading to a goal that sealed Ghana’s exit from the tournament.

Now, a week after the unfortunate game, Ofori has come forward to express his regret and apologize to Ghanaians for the team’s performance at AFCON.

“To the wonderful people of Ghana, I humbly extend my heartfelt apologies for our team’s performance at AFCON. As a collective, we fell short. We gave our all in previous games, and it pains me that we couldn’t achieve the desired result in the end,” said Ofori.

He continued, “I want to express our gratitude for your unwavering support and reassure you that we love God and are committed to learning from this experience. We promise to work harder, address our mistakes, and strive for a better outcome in the future. Your understanding means the world to us.”

Despite Ofori’s apology, many Ghanaians have called for his retirement from the Black Stars.
