The Northern Regional Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA) has been ordered to be immediately arrested by Parliament.
Following the release of the 2022 Auditor General’s report, which uncovered the misuse of more than GH¢160,000 in internally generated funds by the Northern Regional Management of the NSA, the directive for the arrest was issued.
The Auditor General’s report highlighted that the funds were spent in violation of the Public Financial Management Regulations, 2019. The failure of the Regional Director to provide an explanation before the public accounts committee has raised serious concerns about accountability and transparency.
In response to this, the chairman of the committee has ordered the arrest of both the Northern Regional Director and the accountant.
“We are directing that the regional director and accountant of the region should be picked up immediately by the police,” said the chairman of the committee.
“You were invited to appear before Parliament, and you refused, knowing very well that you had squandered over GH¢160,000 and you thought you would go scout-free,” he added.
