Charlton Athletic midfielder, Freda Ayisi, has expressed her excitement after being named in the Ghana women’s senior national team for the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games qualifier against Zambia. Ayisi, who has represented England in the past, is looking forward to the opportunity to play for Ghana.
The 29-year-old player explained that despite being eligible to play for Ghana earlier in her career, she felt that now is the right time for her to make the switch. “I could have been playing for Ghana earlier but I felt that now is the right time for me to play for Ghana. It’s just a personal decision,” Ayisi said in an exclusive interview with Joy Sports.
Ayisi, who was part of Arsenal’s 2014 FA Cup-winning team, is eager to join the rest of the Black Queens and start camping ahead of the qualifiers. “I am happy. It’s a great achievement [and] I can’t wait to play with the girls. I am looking forward to it,” she added.
The midfielder is expected to join the rest of the team as they begin camping before the first leg of the third round of qualifiers on Friday, February 23. Her call-up to the national team has come at a crucial time in her career, marking a new chapter as she prepares to represent Ghana at the international level.
