Charles Taylor, a former Ghanaian attacker, has voiced his reservations about the possible rehiring of Otto Addo as the head coach of the national team, the Black Stars.

According to reports, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is contemplating the appointment of Addo, currently a talent coach at Borussia Dortmund, as its top choice to take over the coaching position following the dismissal of Chris Hughton. Hughton was sacked due to the Black Stars’ underwhelming performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

A five-member committee has been tasked with recommending candidates to the GFA’s Executive Council to select a new coach. Mark Addo, who leads the search team, has revealed that despite receiving over 500 applications, including one from Otto Addo, no final decision has been made.

Charles Taylor, who previously played for Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, has cast doubts on Addo’s potential reappointment. Taylor stated that from Addo’s previous tenure as Black Stars coach, there were no positive results to show.

In an interview with Accra-based Onua FM, Taylor expressed his skepticism, saying, “Nothing good will come from Otto Addo. He has coached the team before, and there is nothing positive you could pinpoint from his first stint.”

Taylor also raised the question of whether the GFA should consider previous coaches who have successfully led Ghana to World Cup qualifications for the role. “Does that mean we should consider all past coaches who qualified us for the World Cup?” he questioned.
