Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongo, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has raised concerns about the breakdown of the $8.5 million budgeted for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations for the Black Stars by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Ablakwa took to Facebook to express his concerns, pointing out discrepancies in the breakdown provided by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
According to the MP, the $5,071,840.36 released by the Controller and Accountant General is significantly less than the $6,946,450.00 that the Finance Minister claims to have been released.
These discrepancies have led Ablakwa to call for a halt to all expenditure on the Black Stars. He has also called for an independent forensic audit to investigate the budget and the expenditures related to the Black Stars.
Ablakwa emphasizes the need for parliamentary oversight and for those responsible for the discrepancies to be held accountable.
Despite his concerns, Ablakwa acknowledges the unifying potential of football and urges Ghanaians to work together to address the issues at hand.
