The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team, Bay FC, has completed the signing of Nigerian striker Asisat Oshoala from Barcelona Women. The 29-year-old, who has been named African Women’s Footballer of the Year six times, has signed a deal with the American club until 2026, with the option of extending for a third year.
During her five years in Spain, Oshoala won four league titles, the Champions League twice and eight domestic cups, scoring 117 goals in 162 appearances for the Catalan club. She was also the first African woman to win a Champions League title in 2021.
Bay FC general manager Lucy Rushton expressed her excitement about the signing, stating, “Asisat is a proven goalscorer at the most elite levels of world football.” Oshoala, who has previously played for Liverpool and Arsenal, brings a wealth of experience and a winning mentality to the NWSL club.
In addition to Oshoala, Bay FC recently secured the signature of Ghana international Princess Marfo from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland. The 20-year-old forward has signed a deal with the American club until the end of the 2025 season, with the option of extending for a third year.
Bay FC is gearing up for their first NWSL campaign as the American top flight expands to 14 clubs, and the addition of Oshoala and Marfo is expected to bolster the squad for the upcoming season.
