Isaac Kwame Asiamah, former Ghana’s Youth and Sports Minister, has been defeated in the New Patriotic Party’s primaries ahead of the 2024 general elections, losing his seat to his contender Owusu Sekyere.

Asiamah, who served as the Sports Minister from 2016 to 2020, received 330 votes, while Owusu Sekyere, the winner of the election, received 377 votes in the election held on Saturday, January 27, 2024. This means that Asiamah will not be returning to Parliament in 2025.

The primaries also saw Ghana FA Executive Council member Frederick Acheampong winning in the Ahafo Ano South East, while Professor Peter Twumasi, the National Sports Authority boss, suffered a humiliating defeat after receiving just seven votes, causing him to miss out on the general elections.
