Melcom Group of Companies, through its Melcom Care Foundation, has shown its support to the John Agyekum Kufuor Foundation in preparation for its upcoming football event on February 18, 2024.
The support came in the form of an undisclosed shopping voucher given to the players who will be competing in the event.
Godwin Avenorgbo, the Group Director of Communications at Melcom, emphasized the importance of sports in bringing people together from different backgrounds and expressed delight in the efforts of the John Agyekum Kufuor Foundation to contribute to sports development.
He stressed the need for other organizations, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association, to work towards restoring Ghana’s status as a football powerhouse.
Avenorgbo also pointed out the importance of not neglecting other sports disciplines such as athletics, volleyball, boxing, hockey, basketball, and table tennis, reiterating that a focus solely on football could have a significant impact on the nation’s psyche and productivity in the workplace.
Professor Baffour Agyemang-Duah, the CEO of the John Agyekum Kufuor Foundation, expressed gratitude to Melcom Group for their support and highlighted that the main purpose of the games is to raise funds to aid the foundation’s work in supporting youth mentoring and education initiatives.
The J.A. Kufuor Cup, which will feature a match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, is set to honor the former President and serve as the climax of his 85th birthday celebration.
The event aims to promote national cohesion through sports in a competitive spirit.
