The Head of the Mauritania national team, Amir Abdou, is eyeing the top job of coaching the Black Stars of Ghana after the recent dismissal of coach Chris Hughton.

With the Ghana FA on the hunt for a new coach following the disappointing performance of the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, Amir Abdou has emerged as a strong candidate due to his impressive track record on the African continent.

Abdou’s coaching exploits at the AFCON include leading Comoros to their first-ever qualification to the knockout stage during the 2021 tournament in Cameroon and guiding Mauritania to their first-ever Round of 16 qualification at the 2023 AFCON.

Reports indicate that the Ghana FA has already engaged in discussions with Amir Abdou and has offered a monthly salary of 45,000 dollars. When asked about his interest in the vacant head coach position of the Black Stars, Abdou responded, “Who wouldn’t want to coach Ghana?” during an interview with Max FM’s Ampofo Ankrah.

Additionally, it has been reported that the Ghana FA has received over 100 applications from coaches worldwide, indicating the high level of interest in the position.
