The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has expressed his sadness following the unexpected death of Raphael Dwamena, a former football player. Okraku spoke at Dwamena’s funeral, which took place today.
Raphael Dwamena, who previously played for Real Zaragoza and Levante, tragically passed away on November 11 after suffering a heart attack during a match in the Albanian League for Egnatia.
Okraku, speaking at the funeral at the Adjirigano Astro Turf in Legon, offered his condolences to Dwamena’s family and acknowledged the footballer’s struggles with heart-related issues, which had affected his career, including a potential transfer to the English Premier League’s Brighton and Hove Albion.
Prominent figures in Ghanaian football, including GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo and former Black Stars players Isaac Vorsah, Kwadwo Asamoah, Sulley Muntari, and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, attended the service.
“Nobody can replace the loss of a life, especially when the person was so close to you. That’s when you truly understand the impact of their passing,” Okraku told Citi Sports.
“Ghana football has lost a significant talent; someone who could have scored numerous goals for our national team,” he added.
