Crystal Palace’s Ghanaian striker, Jordan Ayew, has shared his thoughts on Roy Hodgson’s decision to step down as the manager of the club due to illness.
The former England national team manager left his role as the head coach of the club on Monday after collapsing at the training grounds, sparking concerns among fans and players alike.
The Eagles have swiftly confirmed the appointment of former Eintracht Frankfurt head coach, Oliver Glasner, as the new manager for the side in the wake of Hodgson’s unexpected departure.
Reacting to Hodgson’s resignation, Ayew, who scored Palace’s only goal in their 1-1 draw against Everton on Monday night, praised the 70-year-old for his positive impact on both his career and personal development.
“When we speak about Roy I have goosebumps because he’s been so good to me and he’s been a top manager, a top man,” Ayew emotionally expressed after the match.
“He helped me a lot and made me improve as a football player and as a man as well. I can’t thank him enough,” he added.
This season, Ayew started 21 out of 22 league games under Hodgson, scoring twice and providing five assists along the way, highlighting the strong working relationship between the two.
Crystal Palace’s results on Monday night leave them at the 15th spot with 25 points, and they are set to host struggling Burnley at Selhurst Park this coming Saturday.
