Richmond Lamptey, midfielder for Asante Kotoko, has spoken about his experience at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, saying he will work even harder in the future.
The 26-year-old was selected as one of three Ghana Premier League players to be a part of the squad for the recently concluded tournament.
In a conversation with his club after the tournament, Lamptey expressed his determination, stating, “It’s not easy but as a professional player you should be ready for anything. The more the expectations, I’ll work extra hard,” in response to the increased expectations placed upon him.
Despite calls for Lamptey to participate in the tournament, head coach Chris Hughton did not field him in any games.
Lamptey was chosen as one of three local players for Ghana’s final squad for the tournament in Ivory Coast.
Ghana’s performance led to their elimination from the tournament after finishing third in a group that included Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.
Following a 2-1 loss to Cape Verde and back-to-back 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique, the Black Stars missed out on advancing to the Round of 16.
