The Chairperson of the Black Queens Management Committee, Gifty Oware-Mensah, has released a statement to clarify comments she made during an interview with Joy Sports in which she compared the Black Queens and the Black Stars.
During the interview, she mentioned that the love for the male national team among Ghanaians is much more than the women’s national team receives.
She also stated that the disparity in bonuses paid to the two national teams is justified, noting that the male team is the one that dominates the love and affection from the country.
In her press release to clarify the issues, Oware-Mensah expressed that her comments have been taken out of context, particularly with reference to the comparison between the Black Queens and the Black Stars.
She clarified that her intention was not to undermine the achievements of the Black Queens but to emphasize the distinct nature of each team. She also urged Ghanaians to watch the complete video of the interview to gain a comprehensive context to the statements she made.
Oware-Mensah expressed her utmost respect for the Black Queens and recognized their invaluable contributions to Ghanaian football. She also encouraged a thorough review of the interview to reveal a more accurate understanding of her perspectives on both the Black Queens and the Black Stars.

The Chairperson seems to have been the victim of the misinterpretation of her statements, and her intention was to point out the different nature of each team, rather than diminish the Black Queens.
