Former Ghana defender John Painstil has raised concerns about the ‘Save Ghana Football’ demonstration that took place recently, suggesting that it lacked a clear purpose.
The demonstration, which saw many football enthusiasts take to the streets of Accra, was meant to protest the state of Ghana’s football following the disappointing performance of the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The team failed to advance from the group stage.
Following the march, the organizers of the demonstration presented a petition to Parliament in an effort to seek solutions to the problems within Ghanaian football.
Paintsil, a former national team player, expressed his doubts about the purpose of the protest. He highlighted that when people talk about Ghana Football, they are not just referring to the national team, and that the national team is still in a rebuilding phase. He emphasized that the current players are relatively new faces and it will take time to get them to perform at their best.
The concerns raised by Paintsil highlight the need for a more comprehensive understanding of the issues affecting Ghanaian football and the development of a clear roadmap for improvement.
