Former Ghana winger, Laryea Kingston, has expressed his eagerness to take on the role of coaching the Black Stars should the opportunity arise.

At present, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is in the process of searching for a new head coach for the senior national team, following the recent dismissal of Chris Hughton. A five-member committee has been established to lead the search for the new coach.

The decision to part ways with the former Premier League manager came after the Black Stars’ disappointing performance at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

With his extensive experience as a player, earning 42 caps for the national team and scoring six goals, Kingston is confident in his ability to guide the team back to success.

In an interview with Graphic Sports, Kingston emphasized his qualifications and understanding of what it takes to succeed at the international level.

His confidence in his capabilities is evident as he stated, “I know the level at which I am now.” If appointed, Kingston would join the ranks of former players like Charles Kwablan Akonnor and James Kwasi Appiah, who have previously taken on coaching roles for the national team.

The GFA has set specific criteria for the new coach, requiring a minimum of 15 years of coaching experience.

Alongside Kingston, other former players such as Maxwell Konadu and Michael Osei have also applied for the vacant coaching role. It remains to be seen who will ultimately lead the Black Stars as they strive for success on the international stage.
