Hearts of Oak has officially dissolved its board of directors after a 12-year tenure under the leadership of Togbui Afede XIV. The club made the announcement, signaling the end of the reign of key figures like Alhaji Moro Braimah (Akanbi), Vincent Odotei Sowah, and Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe, who have faced criticism in recent years.
The outgoing board members include Togbui Afede XIV, Alhaji Alhassan Andani, Thomas Kwesi Esso, Professor Kofi Kumado, Ivy Heward Mills, Alhaji Moro Adamu, Vincent Sowah-Odotei, Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe, and Frank Nelson Nwokolo. The decision to dissolve the board comes ahead of the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), which has been rescheduled from February to March.
Sources close to the situation have revealed that the search for new board members is one of the reasons for the AGM postponement. Last week, supporters protested against the board and Executive Chairman, Togbui Afede, citing dissatisfaction with the leadership. However, it has been clarified that the dissolution of the board was not directly related to the demonstration.
Shareholders had previously demanded the dissolution of the board at the 2023 AGM, which led to a compromise to change the board at the next meeting. The outgoing board acknowledged their unpopularity and strained relationship with fans and shareholders, prompting their decision to step down before the AGM to allow for a smooth transition period.
During their tenure, the outgoing board oversaw significant achievements for Hearts of Oak, including one league title, two FA Cup titles, and one FA Super Cup trophy. The club will now focus on the process of selecting new board members to lead them into the future.
