Ghanaian midfielder Alhassan Wakaso sees red in Portugal

Ghanaian midfielder Alhassan Wakaso received a red card as his team, Leixoes SC, suffered a 2-0 defeat to Santa Clara in the Portuguese second-tier league on Sunday.

Wakaso, 32 years old, was cautioned before the end of the first half of the highly anticipated match and was ultimately sent off in the 33rd minute.

The home team took the lead through Vinicius Lopes in the 27th minute, heading into halftime with the advantage.

Santa Clara doubled their lead and ultimately sealed the victory in the 69th minute with a goal from Safira, who scored from the spot.

Wakaso joined Leixoes in January 2023 and has made eleven appearances in the Portuguese second-tier league since then. His current contract is set to expire in June 2024.
