Ghanaian footballer Princess Marfo has made a historic move to join American team Bay FC.
FC Nordsjaelland, where Marfo has been playing, announced the completion of her switch to the American side.
Only 18 years old, Marfo made the move to Europe two years ago from the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana to join FC Nordsjælland.
During her time at the club, she quickly established herself as an important player and excelled in the Danish Gjensidige Women’s League.
Now, after her impressive performance in Denmark, Marfo has been signed by Bay FC to continue her career in America.
“From the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana to a profile in the Danish Gjensidige Women’s League. Now the trip goes across the Atlantic for 20-year-old Princess, who will in future play for the American team Bay FC,” a club statement by FC Nordsjaelland said.
Reflecting on her journey, Marfo expressed hope that her success will inspire more players to follow in her footsteps from the Right to Dream Academy.
“I have learned a lot at FC Nordsjælland. At the academy, I mostly played with boys. Communication was not always good. Here at the club, communication is important. And I have found that communication is everything.
“I think a lot about the fact that I am the first woman from Right to Dream who has made the trip to Denmark. And I hope that young girls can use me as an example and see that it is possible. It is difficult and you have to focus 100% on football, but it is possible,” Princess Marfo said as quoted on the website of FC Nordsjaelland.
