Ghana FA exco member Randy Abbey explains Black Stars AFCON 2023 failure

The Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association, Randy Abbey, has shed light on why the Black Stars failed to make an impact at the 2033 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Despite high expectations, the Black Stars had a lackluster performance in the tournament, failing to win any of their group games and finishing third in Group B after two draws and a loss.

This marks the second consecutive time that Ghana has been unable to advance to the knockout stage of the AFCON, as they also faced early elimination in the 2021 edition held in Cameroon.

According to Abbey, there were clear issues with player deployment, substitutions, timing, and game management that contributed to the team’s poor showing at the tournament.

Following the disappointing AFCON campaign, the Ghana FA has parted ways with coach Chris Hughton and has opened applications for a new coach, with a deadline set for submission on February 2, 2024.
