Ghana FA exco member Frederick Acheampong responds to purported Otto Addo’s Black Stars return

Frederick Acheampong, an Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association, has rejected rumors connecting Otto Addo to the open Black Stars position.

Earlier reports in the local media implied that Addo is the frontrunner to become the next Black Stars coach after impressing the selection committee with his vision and coaching philosophy, which aligns with the team’s ethos.

Since the dismissal of Chris Hughton and his technical team after a disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the Black Stars have been without a permanent coach.

The team’s exit from the tournament occurred after drawing two games and finishing third in Group B, behind Cape Verde and Egypt.

In response, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) put together a committee, led by Vice President Mark Addo, to find and appoint a suitable replacement.

The committee is responsible for identifying a coach who is a proven winner, shares Ghana’s football values, and can inspire the team to success.

“The appointment of the coach does not even stop with the search committee. This is from our level (The Executive Committee). The decision we made was that the search committee should draw up a shortlist of three coaches, so I was surprised to hear that Otto Addo is leading the race as if the search committee are in charge to appoint us a coach”

“The search committee are expected to bring three coaches to the Executive Council for further discussions and checks before one person will be chosen amongst the three” he said on Kessben FM monitored by Footballghana.com.

Originally in charge of the Black Stars in 2022, Otto Addo guided Ghana to the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a win over Nigeria in the final playoff round.

He remained at the helm until Ghana exited the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar at the end of the group stage following two defeats and one win.

After his departure, the Ghana FA appointed Chris Hughton as the Black Stars coach, but unfortunately, he failed to meet expectations.
