The President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, has finally addressed the disappointing performance of the national team at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Ghana was unable to advance past the group stage after failing to secure a victory in any of their group matches. The team managed to draw two games and suffered a defeat, ultimately finishing in third place in Group B, behind Cape Verde and Egypt.

This marks the second consecutive AFCON in which Ghana has failed to progress beyond the group stage, following a similar outcome in the 2021 tournament held in Cameroon.

During a media briefing on Wednesday, Okraku expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of the Black Stars at the AFCON.

“Ghana was represented by our beloved Black Stars. The team’s performance during the tournament was not in line with our expectations, and as leaders of football, we are deeply disappointed,” he said.

“As the FA, we ensured that the team had all the necessary support and resources to perform at their best. However, their performance fell short of our expectations. Ghana has not won the AFCON in over 40 years, and it is our ultimate goal to bring that victory back to our country. Unfortunately, we were unable to achieve that this time,” Okraku added.

“The period following our last game against Mozambique has been a time for reflection for us. The performance of the Black Stars in Abidjan was not up to our standards. We are committed to seeing our national teams and league clubs play quality football and achieve victories,” he emphasized.
