Presidential hopeful Alan Kyerematen, who is representing the Movement for Change, has expressed his confidence in Ghana’s ability to win the FIFA World Cup.
He stressed the need for a complete overhaul of the country’s sports landscape in order to make this a reality.
During an interview with Akoma FM in Kumasi, Kyerematen emphasized the crucial importance of significant changes in governance, particularly within the sports sector.
“I have consistently said that we need a significant shift or transformation in our governance, including sports.
“If the great transformation begins in sports, I believe Ghana can win the World Cup.”
This statement follows the disappointing performances by the Black Stars in recent international tournaments, such as the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, where they failed to secure a single win and were eliminated in the group stage for the second consecutive tournament.
In addition, the national team’s inability to progress beyond the group stage in the 2022 World Cup has sparked renewed calls for reforms within the sports sector.
