Neil Armstrong Mortagbe, a sports marketing professional, has called on the Ghana Football Association to appoint a coach who can instill a tough mentality and a hunger for winning in the national team.

Following the disappointing performance of the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, the need for a new coach has become imperative after the sacking of Chris Hughton.

Speaking to Graphic Sports, Mortagbe emphasized the importance of a coach who can quickly assess the team and bring out the best in the talented players.

“We need a coach who can build a resilient mentality and a desire for success in the players. These qualities are crucial for our talented players to perform at their best,” he said.

Ghana’s failure to advance to the Round of 16 came after finishing third in a group that included Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.

The Black Stars suffered a 2-1 loss to Cape Verde and managed back-to-back 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique, resulting in their exit from the tournament.

This marked the second consecutive time that Ghana exited at the group stage without a win, extending the country’s AFCON title drought to 42 years.
