Nana Oduro Sarfo, a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, has denied claims of lack of transparency within the association.
The recent ‘Save Ghana Football’ protest, which saw a large number of football fans expressing their dissatisfaction with the leadership of football in Ghana, prompted Sarfo’s response.
The protest was triggered by the early exit of the Black Stars from the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire, leading to football supporters taking to the streets of Accra.
Demonstration organizer Saddick Adams demanded improved transparency of the GFA by Ghana’s parliament. In his response, Sarfo clarified the financial oversight process, stating that inquiries about FIFA funds should be directed to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
“If they want to know about funds from FIFA, they can go to the Ministry (Youth and Sports) for the Ministry to provide them with the financial details because the funds from FIFA, when it comes to us, we hand it over to the government.”
“It’s not our money. We’ve been made to understand that the Black Stars do not belong to us so we return the funds to the supposed owners of the Black Stars.”
