Ghana’s former international Dan Owusu has shed light on the lack of commitment from the current national team players.

Despite the abundance of talent in the country, the Black Stars have faced a decline in recent years. Since 2017, the team has only managed to win one of their last 10 AFCON matches, struggling in both qualifying and friendly matches.

During an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the three-time Ghana Premier League goal king pinpointed the reasons why current Black Stars players have not been able to contribute significantly to the national team.

“Ghanaians have complained about the commitment of Black Stars players in recent times and I think it is about how players are treated in the team. It’s about time we change our style of managing players”

“I got injured before the 1978 AFCON and nothing better came out of it. I was treated but along the line I was neglected. Jerry Akaminko and other players have suffered a similar situation before. I think the current crop of players have noticed what happened in the past and have advised themselves. All these are contributing factors to the team’s struggles which need to be solved as soon as possible,” he said.

The Black Stars exited at the group stage at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, failing to claim a victory in any of their group games.
