Former Bayern Munich coach Felix Magath has expressed strong interest in the Ghana national team coaching position after the sacking of Chris Hughton, as reported exclusively by Ghanasoccernet.com.

Hughton was dismissed following Ghana’s underwhelming performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they failed to advance past the group stage in Cote d’Ivoire.

The four-time African champions delivered lackluster displays in all three group games, culminating in a disappointing collapse in their final match, squandering a two-goal lead to settle for a 2-2 draw and an early exit from the tournament.

With the search for a new coach underway, Felix Magath has emerged as a potential candidate, as confirmed by his agent Vukoja Josip.

“Felix Magath has a great interest in the Ghana national team,” Josip stated in an exclusive conversation with Ghanasoccernet.

Magath, 70, boasts an impressive track record and meets the requirements set by the Ghana FA for the search committee. As a successful footballer, he won numerous titles, including three Bundesliga championships, an European Cup, UEFA European Championship, and twice finished as a World Cup silver medalist.

He seamlessly transitioned to coaching and achieved great success, notably during his tenure at Bayern Munich, where he secured two Bundesliga titles and two DFB-Pokal (German Cups). He also clinched the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg and was crowned German Football Manager of the Year on three occasions.

The Ghana FA has set a three-week deadline for the search committee to find a suitable replacement for Hughton, making Magath a strong contender due to his remarkable credentials.

Magath’s no-nonsense coaching style could provide the fresh start that the Black Stars desperately need, potentially bringing out the best in the talented players.
