Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has vehemently denied allegations of interfering with player selections and callups during the tenure of former Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton. At a press meeting in Kumasi, Okraku rubbished claims of meddling in the decisions made by Charles Kwablan Akonnor and Otto Addo as well.
Okraku firmly stated, “I didn’t interfere in the job of Charles Akonnor. Neither did I interfere in the job of Otto Addo… and neither did I interfere in the job of Mr. Chris Hughton.”
He further assured that any future coaches hired by the Football Association will be provided with the freedom to execute their responsibilities without any interference.
Following Ghana’s elimination from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they finished third in Group B with only two points from three games, Chris Hughton was removed from his position as the head coach. The Ghana FA is currently in search of a suitable replacement for the Irish trainer, with the March international window looming.
It remains to be seen who will take up the pivotal role as the head coach of the Black Stars, as the GFA continues the search for the right individual to lead the national team.
